Medals, Medallions
They were identical to the ‘peças’, the only
difference was that the coin was fake (=’imitação’), therefore
they were called by the goldsmiths ‘de imitação’ coins. Usually
they looked like coarse imitations of pounds, once the stamping
didn’t allow great perfection, in order to avoid that the buyers
of the real pieces were fooled.
